Alfred Foot was born in St. Mary’s, Southampton and attested on 20th March 1882 seeing service with the Royal Field Artillery, initially at home until on 7th September 1883 he would travel to India, remaining there until 18th November 1890 when he would return home to the UK.
Foot would remain in the United Kingdom until 2nd November 1899, he would then travel to South Africa where he would take part in the Boer War being present in the operations at Cape Colony and Orange Free State as well as in the action at Johannesburg, he would be Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette of 10th September 1901. He would return to the UK on 7th April 1903 and would be discharged on 16th June 1903.
