A Battle of Sidi Barani casualty General Service Medal 1918-1962, GVIR 1st type bust, 1 Clasp: Palestine awarded to Corporal, later Serjeant M. Lamb, 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders who saw service in Palestine during the Arab Revolt before later being present in the Western Desert during the Second World War. He was killed in action on 10th December 1940 during the fighting at Sidi Barani and is now buried Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery.

Matthew Lamb saw service as a Corporal (No. 2975792) with the 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Palestine during the Arab Revolt.
Later seeing service in North Africa he would be killed in action as a Serjeant on 10th December 1940 during the Battle of Sidi Barani, subsequently being buried in Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery. He is noted as the son of Matthew and Barbara Lamb and the husband of Sarah Lamb of Raploch, Stirlingshire.
A local newspaper report published the following obituary:
‘Sergeant Matthew Lamb, A. & S.H. has been reported killed in action in the Battle of Egypt on 10th December. Intimation of his death was received last week by his wife, who resides with her parents, Mr and Mrs Robert Paterson, 36 Beatty Avenue, Stirling. Sergeant Lamb like his wife was a native of Dunfermline, but he was stationed at Stirling Castle for some time, and they were married in Stirling six years ago. He was thirteen years in the Argylls, and was in Palestine when war was declared. He was a member of the A. & S.H. tug of war team. Sergeant Lamb is survived by his wife and a young family of two boys and a girl.’
