A Balkan War Blockade of Montenegro and subsequent Great War and Post War service 1914-1915 Star trio awarded to Stoker Petty Officer A.W.E. Bull, Royal Navy who was present aboard H.M.S. Britannia during the Balkan War of 1913 when she took part in the blockade of Montenegro. He would serve throughout the Great War on H.M.S. Britannia and later H.M.S. Royal Sovereign and continue to serve until 21st March 1928 when he was discharged and subsequently joined the Royal Fleet Reserve.

Albert William Edward Bull was born in Sandown on the Isle of Wight on 5th September 1886 and giving his occupation as an Errand Boy saw service as Boy 2nd Class aboard St. Vincent from 21st April 1902 until 16th September 1902. He would then see a break in service until he rejoined on 22nd March 1906 giving his trade as a Bricklayer’s Labourer. He initially would serve aboard Nelson as a Stoker 2nd Class. He would be promoted Stoker 1st Class whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Spartiate on 28th November 1906, Acting Leading Stoker aboard H.M.S. Seagull on 18th September 1911, and Leading Stoker aboard Fisgard on 2nd May 1912.
He would see service with H.M.S. Britannia as part of the blockade of Montenegro during the Balkan War of 1913 and would still be serving aboard at the outbreak of war, having been appointed a Stoker Petty Officer on 1st July 1914. He would remain aboard Britannia in home waters until 29th November 1915.
After a short period ashore he would then join the Royal Sovereign on 11th April 1916, and would remain with her until 25th October 1920. He would receive the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal whilst serving aboard Excellent on 28th April 1921. He would join the survey ship H.M.S. Iroquois on 30th November 1922, being promoted Chief Stoker on 7th January 1923 and remaining aboard until 11th June 1925. He would finish his seaborne service aboard H.M.S. Revenge where he was present between 6th January 1926 and 2nd January 1928, before finally being discharged on 21st March 1928 and joining the Royal Fleet Reserve the following day.
