M.I.D. London Gazette 16 January 1918. For gallant and distinguished service in Egypt.
Charles Alexander Boulton was born in the parish of Southwark, London, and attested for service with the 11th Hussars at Aldershot on 19 Sept 1899, at the age of 19. Having reached the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant, he was discharged to commission in the Sussex Yeomanry in 1914. Although he has seen overseas service in South Africa, India and Egypt, these postings were not during a time of campaign and the only medal on his chest was an Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal that had been awarded in 1908.
He served in Gallipoli with the 1/1st Sussex Yeomanry from 23 Sept 1915 and later served on attachment to the City of London Yeomanry. Following Gallipoli he served in Egypt for which he received a Mention in Despatches.
His medals were sent to his address at the time which was Liege, Burnham Avenue, Bognor.
